I’ve wanted an online place to put some of my projects, but my old html/css portfolio website was not cutting it anymore. Because I wrote everything for that myself, its capabilities were limited and adding projects was too much work: so I wanted something new. A blog webpage made in Hugo seemed fun, because I could write about and document everything and publish project in chronological order and if I need to showcase a portfolio, it will be easy to quickly implement that as well!
Home Server
The reason that I started this now, is because I finally got to setting up my own home server. I will write about it in a future post, but my thinking was that because I now could easily hosts websites, I should make one :) I am still thinking about what other things I can host, and I hope it will become much more.
Hugo
When looking into my options for making a static website, I came across many options but Hugo seemed to be the most popular one that is both easy to set up and offers a lot of versatility. I wanted to keep the page simple, but this offered me the option to make it more complex which feels nice. I found the stack theme that looked nice and minimal with good looking documentation. I did end up spending more time than planned in the configuration file and to figure out how everything works. But I guess I don’t really know what I am doing and then every tiny mistake will result in a long search to fix it. It was pretty fun to build this page as a short project but building websites is not really my passion, its something to do every once in a while and that definitly enough.
*I now plan to post on here regularly, but we will have to see about that. *
